What I have learned at the Kanakuk Institute.

Today, I started week four at the Kanakuk Institute. This experience has been unbelievable so far; it is hard for me to figure out how to put it down on paper. So here is to me trying to process what I have learned.

I went to private Christian schools my whole life. I had Bible classes every year, so I thought I knew a lot about the Bible. I do know some stuff but these last few weeks have been more in-depth then I have ever studied the Bible before. I have learned so many different things and I’ve only been here such a short amount of time. One of the things we studied recently was how to do an inductive Bible study.

I learned the importance of not only reading the Bible, but also studying it and truly understanding what it means. We learned the skills used in an inductive Bible study. This gives you great tools to learn how to study the Bible in a new way. Take the book of Jonah; there is more to the story than a fish. Yet, this is what we see in most stories about Jonah. Through the inductive Bible study I got so much more out of this simple story. It was cool to see what God was doing in Jonah’s life.

When I look back on the last month, the thing that sticks out to me is prayer. We had a talk over pray and then saw the movie War Room. I never really thought of it as something so important. I knew it was how we talk to God; I just didn’t really understand it fully. I always heard people say I will pray for you, but never really thought about it as that person actually praying for me. What a cool thing to have people praying for you. Now when I tell people I will pray for you, I pray for them and its great!
