It has been a great 2 months at the Kanakuk Institute. God is just amazing. Something I have really loved is how we study so many different things. Its not just the same boring class day after day. Each week brings in a new speaker and topic. You just never quite know what to expect from each speaker
This last week, we had a great speaker, Kerby Anderson; he spoke to us on several topics: The world religions of Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Mormonism, the millennial generation, and truth decay in today’s society.
The thing that stuck out to me the most this week was the talk about the battle for truth in our society. This is something I encounter in my life on an almost daily basis and it was interesting to learn more about it. We are living in a postmodernism world. This is the belief that truth is not discovered but created. Truth is personal and relative. The problem with this view is that it is saying that all worldviews have an equal claim to the truth. There is no absolute truth. The thing is that saying there is no absolute truth is an absolute truth. The Law of Non-contradiction says A and the opposite of A cannot both be truth.
In America today, we have gone from a society believing in Truth to believing in Tolerance. Tolerance means accepting that each individual’s values and lifestyles are equally valid. Truth now means whatever is right for you is right. Every question can be answered with the phrase “Who are you to say?”
I have even caught myself at times buying into this idea that there is no absolute truth, the world makes it look appealing to have no absolute truth but the Bible is the absolute truth. There is a Truth. John 14:6 says
“Jesus said to him,”I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6 ”
If you believe in the Bible you have to believe in absolute truth. Sometimes I catch myself thinking as long as their choice isn’t affecting me then I don’t need to deal with it but that isn’t true because I also learned that it is important to have a Biblical worldview and figure out where you stand on important social issues. I know the truth and I need to share it. Be in the world, not of the world.
Colossians 2:8 says
“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. Colossians 2:8”
It is important as a Christian that I know what I am standing for and instead of letting the worldview shape my opinion on things.
Its time as Christians for us to stand up and be a shining light in this dark world.
