Our God Is Three In One

Well I am back in Branson for the second semester and I can already tell this is going to be great last few months at the Kanakuk Institute. We haven’t wasted anytime getting back into the swing of things with a full week of classes and studying new topics. I already know that this semester isn’t going to be easy but I am so excited to learn more of what God’s word is trying to teach us.

This week we covered the Trinity! What is Trinitarianism? It is the study of the God who is because the only God who Is is Trinity. The Trinity is something I have heard about for years in church and school but have never really spent a lot of time studying it. I do know that no one really understands the Trinity but its something to at least try to study and have some thoughts on it. So here is the most basic way to explain the Trinity.

The basic statement of the Trinity.

  • There is only one God
  • The Father is God
  • The Son is God
  • The Spirit is God
  • The Father is not the son or the Spirit
  • The Son is not the Father or the Spirit
  • The Spirit is not the Father or the Son.

We recently sang a song by Hillsong United that talks about the Trinity; you don’t find many worship songs that are about the Trinity so I thought I would share it. Here are some of the lyrics:

“I believe in God our Father

I believe in Christ the Son

I believe in the Holy Spirit

Our God is three in one

I believe in the resurrection

That we will rise again

For I believe in the name of Jesus”

Here are some of the passages that point to God being three persons but still the one true God.

1 Peter 1:2 “According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be with yours in the fullest measure. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Philippians 2:5-13 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[b] being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

The Trinity is hard to really understand and explain but its something we have to believe is true and try our best to explain it because it is a crucial part of our Christian faith. If God is Trinity, then it matter we believe in the Trinity; otherwise we are believing in a god who does not exist, and a god who does not exist is no different from all the other so-called gods who do not exist. Belief in the Trinity affects everything else, including the way we read the Bible.

So God is three in one, its a simple as that. God is Trinity.
