This week we have gotten to study the book Hebrews. There are many verses I have memorized from Hebrews but I have never taken the time to study every chapter of it. Our speaker this week was Charles Stolfus. He did a great job explaining and going over the book of Hebrews with us.
The first part of Hebrews I was pretty confused as we were going over it. It is all about the superiority of Jesus Christ and then on to his high priesthood. Today though it all started to make sense to me. I was so surprised at the connections between the Old and New Testament; God is the only explanation for how everything fits so perfectly between the different books. It was so cool to learn how when God sent his son as our sacrifice that this took our sins not just for the week or year but also for life. In Hebrews 10:11 it says:
“By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. “ Hebrews 10:11
Another thing that really stuck out to me was in chapter 11. The author name-drops all these people from the Old Testament that had amazing faith in God and how God provided for them in their faithfulness. When you read through it you just go wow how does the author know all these stories? The author talks about the faith of Abel, Enoch, Noah and Abraham to name a few. He also describes events that took place that only happened because of a faithful God. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. By faith, Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace. It is incredible to see the connections with the Old Testament and the book of Hebrews.
The book of Hebrews is pretty awesome. Christ died as a sacrifice for our sins not just today but for the rest of our lives, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Have faith in God and in His perfect timing because He isn’t ever going to let you down. God knows what he is doing.
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
